Lyrics or catchy melodies, or the feeling of the song. Don't know why I just find myself listening out for those two things. I guess I do that because music and writing are both of my outlets. Though I don't actually have a favourite band, I am not overly keen on the modern day band groups. In my opinion, I tend to go by the term "performer" as someone whom pours their heart & soul into it, a natural, not say one of these music groups like Girls Aloud or Hear Say who have been show biz picked. Someone who's not confined by profit or the norm of the music industry is a performer. That's not what I would call performer, more a mere musician out to make a name, or someone else's idol, as they're trained by "professional types" and "selected" by audiences. Thats just a tacky way to become a celebrity.
One of the problematic flaws with bands these days is that they don't know each other, if they're handpicked by audiences. Take some group like Queen or G4 for a more modern example. They knew each other, knew the flexibility and the range of each participant's voices. *shrug* Quality stuff. As for stuff I listen to, don't actually have a favourite band, just songs really. Queen would come into my top 10 as would Led Zepplin and say... G4 would as well probably. Sometimes I listen to stuff like Simon & Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence or Bridge over troubled water or Bee Gees, it just depends on my mood usually.
