Default Dormant Soul

I don't remember when I wrote this, but I know it was an extremely long time ago....when I was but a wee lad. I smile every time I come across it because it was really one of the best products of my imagination, plus I was incredibly young when I did it. I never finished it but hopefully will when I finally kill the POS known as Writer's Block. It sucks. Enjoy.

Chapter 2

"RRRAAAGGHHHH!!" a young boy yelled with fury, his long hair flying wildly behind him as he sprinted at the red cloaked figure in the distance. His ten year old body was moving at an incredible speed. His legs were almost a blur as he easily covered a quarter-mile,
his body not showing a sign of fatigue. Purple highlights flooded throughout his hair accentuated the bright violet tones that radiated in his eyes. He dragged his hand through the air, and with it came a shadow from a nearby bamboo stalk. It floated around his wrist and palm, emitting a deadly-looking miasma that formed a tail of purple behind him. With an all out push of his legs, the boy lunged at the person, now only a few feet away from his outstretched hand.
"You have to hit me for that shadow to be effective Gonith!" the man taunted with a silly grin on his face. Gonith launched the shadow from his hand, only to hit the large sand dune where the man had been moments before.
"Shut-up!" Gonith screamed as he called the shadow back to his hand, this time swinging at the man's unnaturally, beaming face. As with before, another turn of his cloak and the man seemed to disappear into the folds. A second later, he emerged from the layers of crimson red silk, his flaming red hair popping out first.
"You must control yourself Gonith," the man suggested, "The elements cannot conform to a heart of stone!"
"I know!" Gonith yelled in annoyance as he thrust his fist into the ground. In an instant, his shadow rose up and swallowed him into the ground.
"Predictable!" the man jeered. His eyes lit up with fire as he searched the ground. With a smile, he ignited his hand and flung it in front of his chest. A wall of heated air rushed across the dusty ground, and connected hard with something invisible. An instant later, Gonith was on the ground, bleeding heavily from his bottom lip.
"How'd you find me Fyrian!" Gonith exclaimed angrily.
"It takes complete control Gonith." Fyrian instructed. He slowly walked over to the child, looking down upon his pitiful state. Gonith wiped the blood from his mouth, and spat as he sat up.
"I've been training for months and I still can't master this element!" Gonith complained. Fyrian yawned and looked at the child through his one open eye.
"It takes time Gonith," he said. "It's not just something you learn in one day."
He reached down to offer Gonith a hand, but was soon slapped away after Gonith decided to rise on his own. Fyrian stared at the child hard with a confused look on his face, but was ignored completely as Gonith stared off in the distance.
"What's out there Fyre?" Gonith asked.
"Honestly Gonith," Fyrian said before scratching his ear, "It's best you're old and gray before letting the world hit you in the face."
Gonith leaned on a tall bamboo stalk, looking as innocent as ever in his sleeveless, black shirt. The tail of his purple, silk belt flew through the wind, like a snake on the ground. Slowly, it started to stiffen and change shape. A small figure of a tiger formed in the middle of the belt and started to animate. Small trees and mountains slowly passed the tiger as it ran across different terrains.
"Want something to eat kid?" Fyrian suggested. The tiger collapsed back into the silk as Gonith's conscious was snapped back into reality.
"I'm good..." Gonith sighed as he started his trek back to the palace. Slowly, the two of them walked through the desert, bearing through the hot sun. Gonith called a local shadow to his hand, spreading it out thick in-between his head and the sun. The shadow squealed with delight as it followed its temporary master across the desert.
"Ugh..." Gonith whispered to himself.
"What's that?" Fyrian questioned, apparently overhearing Gonith's sigh of disgust.
"Nothing." Gonith answered sternly. Fryian shrugged before snapping his fingers, producing a small flame above his open palm.
"You know," he paused to dance the flame around his fingers, "Full oneness with your element will never come without.."
"Full oneness with myself," Gonith interrupted, obviously annoyed. "I've heard it all before."

"Hmm..." Gonith seemed to be deep in thought as they crossed the last mile to the palace. As if an invisible line had been drawn, the desert ended in front of a large forest. Plants and trees of all kinds covered the ground, most crawling and moving around on their own. A small vine twisted around Gonith's small ankle as he stood expressing is annoyance of the forest.
"This is responsible..." He stated as he used his shadow to bat away the pesky plant.
"Hey!" a young woman scolded as she emerged from the leafy ground.
"Gonith sneered with disgust as dirt flew off of her.
"Problem?" She asked as she wiped her hand around her slim body. Her curves accentuated by a green and brown robe. It's soft texture flowing around her beautiful body. However, in Gonith's young mind, she was just a dirty old lady.
"Well hi Florena," Fyrian said in a suddenly deeper voice.
"Hi." She chuckled as her robes disappeared behind a towering rose vine, climbing up a tree. Fyrian smiled at the challenge and disappeared in a wisp of smoke, reappearing on a branch high in the forest. With a quick survey of the forest, he disappeared again, this time reappearing on the side of a tree. Hanging on a branch, Fyrian sneered jokingly. Florena seemed to be flying through the trees, untouchable by the persistence of Fyrian. Her fingers brushed under a sunflower which instantly turned towards Fyrian. He raised an eyebrow of curiosity before dodging a volley of bulleted sunflower seeds. He quickly hopped from one tree branch to another, trying to dodge the flower and catch Florena at the same time. Gonith looked in disgust at Fyrian's pitiful attempt to court. With a sigh of annoyance, he let his robe grow and wrap around him. A second later, his shadow had pulled him into the ground. Travel was easier shadow-surfing than walking. Shadows held the ability to move as fast as light if needed, and Gonith needed it. A few seconds passed and he emerged from his hazy black shadow. He brushed his long hair from his face before facing a pair of golden gates closed tight before him. A wooden wall, painted red, stretched far along the kingdom boundaries.
"Open!" he commanded of the guards on the other side, but nothing happened. Impatient and quite annoyed, Gonith transported himself under the gates knowing what kind of welcome he would receive on the other side.
"Hey!" a guard bellowed, but Gonith instantly opened his shadow, sending the unprepared man halfway into the ground. Even angrier, Gonith continued his trek to the palace. Inside the courtyard, flowers of all colors accentuated the stone path leading up to the wooden doors. All who visited the palace admired the work on the Sages; flowers of every shape, size and color; the impossible waterfalls that seemed to be fed by an invisible river; the dozens of doves that coated the courtyards. Everything was a spectacle to the eye, beautiful as it was elegant. Gonith viewed it as waste of the Earth's power, another silly pleasure of mankind. Even at his young age, his mind was far beyond what was expected of him. No one knew this but him, not even his personal scholars. He felt it was a treasure to be kept to himself until the time was right. Angrily, he pushed open the palace doors, leaving cracks in the walls behind them. The guards instantly readied themselves to fight but Gonith pushed them out of the way with his shadow, braking one's arm in the process.
"Move..." Gonith sneered as he walked down the long hall, his shadow dancing around the room behind him. It floated on the walls around the candle-flames that lit the hallway. He quickly made his way to the throne room, but before he was able to blow open the doors, a rope of water twisted around his ankles. Before he could react, Gonith was upside-down six feet in the air. His temper seething as he desperately grabbed at the water, only to watch his fingers pass through the transparent bind. He called shadows from the hallway to try and destroy the water lock but nothing his mind could think of worked. The water started to drag him across the air, twirling his body as if it were nothing. Gonith lost his previous meal before closing his eyes shut, prepared to find the bastard who was playing with him. He closed all of his senses and let his mind reach into the darkest corners of the castle. Quickly, he sifted through the shadows of inanimate objects and people of lower standing. Soon, he found what he was looking for. A blue-robed, tyrant of a man who was using his hands to curve the water to his will. Gonith quickly subdued his shadow, breaking the water bind and freezing the man in his place. He hit the floor hard, struggling to keep his hold on the attacker after losing all of the air in his body.
"Hi Gonith." the man spoke in a strained, but light voice.
"You're so dead Rainen."
