Racism is a very sensative subject now-a-days.

It is a big problem at my school, anyone else have a problem with it where they live?

I think the only real reason for true racism is ignorance and a certain mechanism some people have for blame dodging. I worked with a guy, a real asshole, he was incapable of taking the blame for anything. He'd fuck something up and find a way to make it someone else's fault. He once tried to blame me because he decided to work late and finish up a project (which did not need to be done that day) and was late picking his gf up at the train station. The only difference with a racist is rather than dynamically finding someone to dodge the blame and plant it on, they do it more passively and with a constant concentration on a single race.

That being said, affirmative action is bullshit and should not exist at all, and racist jokes are hilarious and people need to get over that.

yea, but some racist jokes promote stereotypes. dont get me wrong, i laugh at them too, but that doesnt make it right.

and about affirmative action.....i think its needed, but it has to be temporary. i want it to stop in the next 30 years, otherwise it will just be a crutch.

Pretty much all racist jokes promote stereotypes. However if it's all in good fun that's one thing. It's the intent that matters. Like when I say to my friend Zay Sorry man, they don't take food stamps here.

But what is wrong with stereotypes? Aren't the majority of them not far from being truthful? I mean, don't ALOT of blacks and Hispanics commit the majority of crimes, seem to care the least about education, out of all the people in North America?

I mean, Irish people DO often have hot tempers. I mean, the stereotypes about males and females are especially true.


I think the main cause for racism is, yes, ignorance, but not necessarily how Nikias views it. Honestly, I think it is poor reasoning that they use, but want to believe it because it seems mostly true, so they assume that since, according to their reasoning, a black person likely does this because he is black, most blacks will do the same thing because, of course, they are black.

Now, some races have certain characteristics seemingly exclusive to their race, but racism is, like Nikias said, ignorance. I just believe it is ignoring proper reasoning at their convenience.

Why does it get people so hot-tempered? Because racism is false reasoning, thus plainly false. That is why.

And yes, I too think affirmative action is utter crap. It's the same reasoning involved with racism, just with certain information biased in the other direction of racism. I mean, what REALLY is the difference between hating and discriminating against someone because they're black/hispanic/white, and having to hire them because they're of one those ethnic groups? Essentially, the reasoning, and certainly the rationale, is JUST AS BAD.

And I find racial jokes hilarious. Why? Because placing a person who fits a stereotype that causes the joke to exist IN the joke makes it make sense, thus probably humorous. I don't see the big deal in them.

Stereotypes usually have some basis on a truth about a set of people, however the issue with a stereotype is that it assumes ALL blacks and Hispanics commit crime, all blacks and Hispanics care the least about education out of all the people in America, all Irishmen have hot tempers.

Stereotypes are based on smaller truths, what makes it wrong is the assumption that it's a universal truth. See for example your reasoning on homosexuals. You made a stereotype making assumptions about all gays based on an EXTREMELY small and highly biased sampling of the gay population, and chose to take that sampling over even what the majority of the gay population would tell you as a whole.

Those views were based off my observation of human behavior and my interpretation of the Bible. Obviously, referring to the Bible, it is a biased view. However, they consisted of NO material outside my observations and the Bible.

My view that alot of gays are pretending to be gay for the simple reason of advancing socially is easy because women are interested in men who act very similarly to how modern gays do. I still don't see how my view is even unreasonable, if that is what you're implying, Nikias.

Also, you're right on the smaller truths comment.

At my school, i don't find racism a problem.
Except for this one kid in my tech class. He is always makking jokes about asians, things like "wow your good at tetris, are you sure your not asian" or "i made 3 new asian friends this year, im going to charge them to do my homework" I find it kind of innapropriate but i guess since he isn't sending any hate messages too them, he just feel's he is superior.

At my old job my boss was racist. He always made comments about the customers who weren't white or attractive, and little things like that about them. I got really sick of it and quit

are you serious??? i would say hispanics care as much, if not more, about education than whites, especially immigrants.
