When I hear a song i like, I'll go and download every other song by the same artist, and a lot of times i find good music like that. Or I listen to bands that have the same record-label, because usually music on the same label is similar.
When referring music to a friend, i usually ask which bands they listen to, and then tell them other music they may like, unless they like a whole different genre then me. |

I look for bands I like or if I know someone has similar interest I might listen to something they suggest and see if I like it. I don't think most of the bands I listen to are very well know. I hate most mainstream bands out there today. Society does not dictate my taste in music at all. I can think for myself enough to look for what I like and make a decision. I am very picky about music. I often will look up all the lyrics for a CD before I even get it. If I don't like most of the lyrics or the message goes against my own sense of morality I will not get the CD.

Well normally I listen to songs that I feel have alot of meaning in my life. I used to just listen to music for the heck of it, but now I really like songs that have seemed to be based upon things that have happened in my life.

I surf sometimes and watch on Youtube something new. I also take into account recommendations from people I know and respect, read articles and reviews, "stumble" on them when watching VH1, going to other "related" songs in the genre, read in forums about some bands I didn't listen too and try their music too.

I don't care what others say, if I like I song i'm gonna listen to it until i'm bored over my head with it... If I don't get bored ever, it means that really is a good song, and will also be good over many years
I listen to all kinds of genres, I choose my fav songs by their lyrics, by the memories they remind me of, by their melodicity...... But I think the best music is the one that was made before the 90s. |

Lyrics or catchy melodies, or the feeling of the song. Don't know why I just find myself listening out for those two things. I guess I do that because music and writing are both of my outlets. Though I don't actually have a favourite band, I am not overly keen on the modern day band groups. In my opinion, I tend to go by the term "performer" as someone whom pours their heart & soul into it, a natural, not say one of these music groups like Girls Aloud or Hear Say who have been show biz picked. Someone who's not confined by profit or the norm of the music industry is a performer. That's not what I would call performer, more a mere musician out to make a name, or someone else's idol, as they're trained by "professional types" and "selected" by audiences. Thats just a tacky way to become a celebrity.
One of the problematic flaws with bands these days is that they don't know each other, if they're handpicked by audiences. Take some group like Queen or G4 for a more modern example. They knew each other, knew the flexibility and the range of each participant's voices. *shrug* Quality stuff. As for stuff I listen to, don't actually have a favourite band, just songs really. Queen would come into my top 10 as would Led Zepplin and say... G4 would as well probably. Sometimes I listen to stuff like Simon & Garfunkel's The Sound of Silence or Bridge over troubled water or Bee Gees, it just depends on my mood usually.
